Xoom Launches Dedicated Marketing Campaign in Hawaii

Hawaii is ranked No. 2 in the U.S. in Filipino Population

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, May 7, 2014 – Xoom Corporation (NASDAQ: XOOM), a leading digital money transfer provider, has launched a dedicated advertising campaign on Filipino television, radio and print to reach Filipinos residing in Hawaii -- especially those who still send money in person at agent locations.  In addition, Xoom is a sponsor of Fil-Com Sundays at the Filipino Community Center in Waipahu.

The 2010 U.S. Census showed that Filipinos and part-Filipinos make up the second-largest racial group in the state, and Hawaii is also ranked No. 2 in the U.S. in Filipino population.

“Thousands of immigrants have come to the United States from the Philippines over the years and settled in Hawaii, where they have established a strong cultural affinity and proudly express their Filipino identity,” says Pia Guter, Xoom’s Director of Marketing for the Philippines.  “The market has traditionally been served by offline, inconvenient cash-to-cash operators, where consumers often waste precious time waiting in line to send money.  With Xoom, people can send money to their loved ones anytime, anywhere from their desktop, smartphone or tablet device.”

Xoom recently celebrated 10 years of business from the United States to the Philippines.  Since December of 2003, Xoom has partnered with the Philippines’ largest banks and pawnshops, launched ground-breaking initiatives and introduced a mobile app and SMS texting for those sending money and their recipients. Xoom’s business model has been a catalyst in the shift from offline, inconvenient cash-to-cash operators, to online and mobile.

“Xoom realizes the importance of the Hawaii market and is gaining a presence there through TV, radio and print advertising and event participation,” added Guter.  “We hope to make Filipinos aware of Xoom -- the digital alternative that is safe, convenient and fast.”
